Winter Fashion
During winter, the devil is in the details – bland colours and bulky shapes force us to turn to pretty embellishment and outstanding accessories to make our wardrobes work.
We love detailed clothing that incorporates pretty buttons, embroidery, sleek beading and just a little bit of sparkle; patterned hosiery, brooches, belts, wide scarves and metallic detailing all help to brighten the winter blues. Heels are high, high, high and preferably in the form of an ankle boot or platform-front stilettos. Colour comes in the form or art-inspired prints on clothing, shoes and bags.
For our winter issue we travelled to Sydney and took in the sights, sounds and stellar frocks of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Taking our cues from the runway we are bringing skirts and dresses to the front of the closet but if we absolutely have to wear a pant we’re keeping it sleek and skinny. Jackets heralded a throwback to the classic 80s large-lapelled silhouette, with boxy shoulders and sleeves scrunched up.
Winter beauty is all about a fresh complexion and soft pink cheeks with defined eyes and a strong lip. Try a kicky, acid-bright nail to bring colour to your day – we love a bright candy pink or fire engine red to keep things light and bright.
In preparation for next season, we suggest you start stockpiling the following -
• Teeny, tiny, multicoloured string bikinis as seen at Flamingo Sands
• Clothes in monochromatic black and white or grey and white accented with nautical blue, red or an electric shade of peach
• Bandage dresses
• Layered fabrics, namely ethereal chiffon over contrast-coloured linings
• Floral details in the form of embellished shoes, fabric corsages and brightly printed fabrics
